Description
Position OverviewThe Graphic Designer plays an important role in shaping how Jayhawk Extended Learning and the Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute present their programs to learners and partners. This position supports the development and execution of marketing and communications initiatives by creating thoughtful, engaging visual and digital materials that reflect the quality and professionalism of Jayhawk Global and the University of Kansas.
The Graphic Designer contributes directly to efforts that support enrollment growth and revenue goals. Clear, compelling design and accessible digital content are essential to reaching adult learners, professional audiences, and community partners. This role ensures that materials are visually strong, consistent with KU brand standards, and delivered in a timely and coordinated way.
Working closely with the Senior Publication Manager, Marketing Manager, Digital Media Coordinator, program staff, and KU Marketing, the Graphic Designer helps translate program goals into effective visual communication. Collaboration, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of audience needs are central to the success of this position.
Job Description
30% - Design & Visual Communication
- Develop print and digital materials that support program outreach and enrollment efforts.
- Create email graphics, social media assets, digital ads, brochures, catalogs, presentations, and website visuals.
- Adapt designs to meet the needs of varied audiences and subject areas, including technical content.
- Maintain templates and visual standards to ensure consistency across Jayhawk Global programs.
- Prepare final files for both digital distribution and print production.
30% - Website & Digital Support
- Update and maintain program pages within the content management system.
- Improve page layout, navigation, and calls-to-action to support clarity and usability.
- Collaborate with marketing and program staff to keep information organized and current.
- Ensure websites and digital materials meet accessibility standards and align with KU branding guidelines.
20% - Content Review & Quality Assurance
- Conduct routine reviews of Jayhawk Global websites to ensure information is accurate and up to date.
- Evaluate content for clarity, tone, readability, and accessibility.
- Identify needed revisions and coordinate updates with program teams.
- Maintain documentation and schedules that support ongoing content quality efforts.
10% - Program-Specific Support
- Support Osher Lifelong Learning Institute with materials related to membership engagement and seasonal offerings.
- Develop materials for KU Fire & Rescue Training Institute (KFRTI) that clearly communicate course schedules, certifications, and registration steps.
- Assist Aero Short Courses with visuals and web updates tailored to aviation and aerospace professionals.
- Support Professional Programs in the development and launch of new offerings in partnership with KU academic units, including KU Medical Center and other campus collaborators.
- Adapt tone, visuals, and presentation to reflect the goals and audiences of each program area.
10% - Multimedia & Asset Management
- Create and edit short-form video content for program promotion, testimonials, and instructor highlights.
- Format video and visual content for use across multiple digital platforms.
- Organize and maintain digital assets to support efficient retrieval and reuse.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design, Communications, Marketing, Digital Media, or related field.
- Minimum of three years of professional graphic design experience, including digital content support, as evidenced in application materials.
- Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), as evidenced in application materials.
- Experience working in a content management system, as evidenced in application materials.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, reflecting strong attention to detail, as evidenced in application materials.
This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.
