About this role

The Angelo State University College of Arts and Humanities and Department of Visual and Performing Arts invites applications from qualified candidates to teach online and face-to-face courses in Video Game Art and Animation. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Video Game Art and Animation is a new degree within the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. The ideal candidate will be able to help shape this degree for the next generation of video game artists. Applications will be accepted continuously and reviewed as instructional needs develop.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong abilities in art, creativity, design, and technology, supported by professional or academic experience in game design, technical art, real-time production, and game development processes. They should be capable of integrating visual arts with technology and teaching students how visual design, 3D modeling and asset creation, animation, lighting, materials, shaders, optimization, and interactive features function together in professional game-production settings.

They will also mentor students with backgrounds in graphic design, digital art, and traditional fine arts. The goal is to help students transfer their existing artistic knowledge into game development and build industry-focused technical art portfolios that demonstrate professional-level skills.

Minimum qualifications:  An MFA or PhD in game design, game programming, or a closely related discipline, including fields such as computer science, computer programming, or interactive design.

Preferred qualifications:  Professional experience within the game industry is highly desirable. At least two years of hands-on experience in game development using Unreal Engine production methods. Strong technical proficiency with Unreal Engine, Microsoft Visual Studio, C++, C#, Python, JavaScript, HLSL/GLSL, Verse, Advanced Blueprint Visual Scripting, computer graphics math, performance profiling, and specialized pipelines like Niagara VFX, animation and rendering.
