University Communication & Marketing (UCAM) is seeking a talented and creative graphic designer for the University’s Creative Services Center and Division of Enrollment Management. With a customer-focus, this person will work closely with UNM’s marketing team to produce a wide variety of marketing and visual communication materials that speak to multiple audiences including prospective students, current students, alumni, and others.

The selected designer will be tasked with a variety of design projects, ranging from digital advertisements to printed publications, environmental branding to templates and sub-brand guides. They will be involved in the entire creative process—from concept to creation—taking projects from discovery and marketing research to management of printing, installation, or launch. This person will liaise with a variety of clients and have the opportunity to produce highly creative, imaginative materials that reflect and enhance UNM’s well-established institutional brand.

We’re looking for a reliable candidate who can self-manage and thrive under limited supervision while taking ownership of assigned projects. They must have awareness of graphic design trends and specifications, and rely on experience and good judgement to problem solve and overcome project obstacles. This position will typically work within standard business hours, but some nights and weekends may be required to meet department needs. This position requires familiarity with applicable Adobe Creative Suite programs.

This individual will report to the Sr. University Marketing Representative and will be co-managed by the Assistant Director of Marketing Communications for Enrollment Management. Their role with the Division of Enrollment Management will be to design various materials for student recruitment initiatives. They will work in a collaborative environment across two offices—primarily in person at the UCAM office, and in a second working space at the Division of Enrollment Management.

University Creative Services at UCAM provides professional graphic design and multimedia services to UNM departments and units. UCAM depends on effective collaboration and idea sharing to deliver innovative and attention-grabbing work.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and produces a wide range of specialized graphic and illustrative material, to include multimedia concepts; writes and edits marketing or creative copy.
  • Distills complex information into appealing and audience-appropriate visual representations.
  • Works with Sr. Marketing Representative to build proposals for clients and projects, then presents concepts and develops projects through completion.
  • Designs within the parameters of UNM’s established brand style and targeted campaigns.
  • May coordinate a graphics or photographic library and/or maintain digital records.
  • May create and produce digital content that utilizes video or animated graphics.
  • Participates in the design of video graphics, titles, music, or creative look of multimedia assets; makes editorial decisions regarding assembly of information, illustrations, and content.
  • Identifies, selects, and coordinates vendors for printing and publication services, as appropriate to the project; works directly with vendors to provide print-ready files on behalf of clients and UCAM.
  • Proofs content and supports proofing for accuracy and adherence to appropriate production and content standards.
  • Completes post-production (editing) of photo files.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications    
High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications    

  • Qualified candidates must be able to work in an integrated marketing communication team environment and have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Candidates must be able to interact well with a diverse faculty, staff and student population in a professional and productive manner, and create positive working relationships across campus and within UCAM.

Additional multimedia production skills, including photography will be highly considered.
