The short story is that Cosanti Originals is a boutique business where skilled artisans handcraft windbells and other artful decor items in bronze and clay on-site at two culturally significant places in central Arizona, Cosanti and Arcosanti. The sales of these handmade goods help support The Cosanti Foundation, its nonprofit parent organization.

While Soleri’s larger project, Arcosanti, is perhaps better known, Cosanti is the largest concentration of Paolo Soleri’s early architecture in the world. The experimental architecture at Cosanti was built during the 1950s by the late architect Paolo Soleri (1919-2013) to advance his idea of arcology: building urban environments through the integration of architecture and ecology. Soleri’s ideas were inspired by his one-time mentor, Frank Lloyd Wright whose philosophy was to create architecture that was seamlessly one with nature.

The Cosanti Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization was established by Paolo Soleri to advance his arcology philosophy and influence the way contemporary architecture can create sustainable, resilient communities that bring people, nature, and architecture together.

Cosanti Originals is the boutique retail business that was created to financially support Soleri’s arcology projects and is best known for its handmade bronze and ceramic windbells that are made in the same time-honored tradition as when they were first introduced over 65 years ago. Cosanti Originals is a robust operation that employs many talented bronze artisans, ceramicists, jewelry designers and windbell-makers who individually hand-craft every item sold in its gallery and online.

A Marketing and Communications Team comprised of the Director of Marketing and Communications, Staff Photographer-Videographer, Graphic Designer, and Social Media Engagement Intern are champions of the Cosanti Originals brand. Together, they promote and sell products through advertising, direct marketing, online promotion, PR, social media, and customer engagement, among other things.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Graphic Designer position is part-time, 25 hours weekly, Monday-Friday, remotely working from home as well as occasionally on-location at Cosanti Originals in Paradise Valley and at off-site photo-shoots. The Graphic Designer will be responsible for the conceptual development and design of marketing materials, print and digital advertisements, in-store signage, presentations, and other collateral. This position will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to create a broad range of graphic materials that represent the brand and tell its story in a compelling, visual way.

The Graphic Designer will interface with various agencies, partners, vendors, and printers to ensure the proper standard of quality and visual representation of the brand is maintained. It is important for the Graphic Designer to be able to implement established brand guidelines while still innovating and pushing the boundaries across all channels and areas of design. This team member will also have multiple day- to-day responsibilities that are highly time-sensitive and require a high level of attention to detail.

The ideal candidate must have a thorough knowledge of design with strong conceptual and production skills and the ability to execute all projects from concept to completion, including but not limited to using product and stylized photography in layouts, image editing, graphic design, logo creation, and conceptual mock-ups. The Graphic Designer will interface with agencies, partners, vendors, and printers to ensure the proper standard of quality and visual representation of the brand is maintained and elevated.

The Graphic Designer should be a confident and capable communicator and demonstrate the ability to work with internal and external collaborators to advance the “Four Ps of Cosanti:” Cosanti, the place (historic and culturally-significant site where Cosanti Originals is headquartered)... Cosanti, the people (the skilled artisans)….Cosanti, the process (handmade in the same way for over 65 years)….and of course, Cosanti, the product (windbells, accent tiles, pots and planters, jewelry, etc.).
