What we want

The Graphic Designer II, under direction, is responsible for supporting various design and development needs related to marketing and communications for the university, including designing and editing graphics/photos for use in social media, websites, campaigns, brand experiences, events and other purposes. Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of related experience in graphics design, web development, print and electronic media, marketing or related design field


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Expert skill level using Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and AfterEffects, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Understanding of design principles, website design principles
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others


Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a Design or Communications related field, including Communication, Design, Visualization, Marketing
  • Three years' experience in design, including print and online media
  • Experience working in marketing and communications field and working within brand guide or standard
  • Experience with project management or using a project management tool


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of principles of Responsive Web Design, process and wireframing
  • Understanding of social media strategy
  • Ability to create print specifications, obtain print bids, prep files for printing, oversee proofing and production and perform press checks
  • Excellent time management skills


Responsibilities:
  • Graphic Design and Production - Uses complex information and data, determine and implement best graphic format for most effective visual communication. Creates original illustrations for use in marketing materials, both print and digital. Designs and produces university advertising for both print and digital media. Designs and produces supporting material for conferences and events (i.e., incentive items, displays, signage). Designs and produces social media graphics for multiple university channels, according to varying specifications.
  • Website wireframe and Design - Works with content team and web to develop wireframes and website design mockups in accordance with brand guide and campus initiatives.
  • Strategic Branding implementation - Assists and advises campus communicators with application of university brand guidelines. Maintains current content on university brand guide website. Designs and produces print and digital templates in a variety of software for campus communicators.
  • Social Media Graphic Production - Designs and produces social media graphics for multiple university channels, according to varying specifications. Designs and produces motion graphics for use in video and other media channels media.
  • Motion Graphic Production - Designs and produces motion graphics for use in video, social media and other channels.
  • Project Coordination / Project Management - Obtains pricing, preps files and oversees production. Oversees press checks if necessary. Manages communication and oversees projects conducted with vendors.
  • Information Awareness - Follows industry trends through blogs, e-newsletters and social media. Looks for innovative ways to illustrate and share information to appropriate audiences. Keeps track of trends and news in related areas, such as marketing, advertising and higher ed. Seeks out and participates in training to enhance or develop new skills. Performs other duties as assigned.
