Los Lunas Animal Clinic seeks a compassionate Mixed Animal Veterinarian to join our full-service, community-focused practice in Los Lunas, NM. You’ll provide medical, surgical, dental, and preventive care to primarily small animals, with some large animal work as needed. Responsibilities include diagnostics, treatment planning, client communication, and promoting preventive care. Provide high-quality medical, surgical, and preventive care to mixed animal patients, including small animals, equine, and livestock
Perform thorough physical examinations, develop diagnostic and treatment plans, and oversee follow-up care
Handle routine and emergency cases, including triage, stabilization, and critical care for multiple species
Perform general soft tissue surgeries and minor orthopedic procedures, ensuring appropriate anesthesia and pain management
Interpret in-house and reference laboratory results, radiographs, and other diagnostic imaging to guide treatment
Conduct wellness visits, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and nutritional counseling for both individual pets and herd/flock populations
Participate in ambulatory/field calls to farms and ranches in the Los Lunas area, providing on-site care and herd health support
Educate and communicate clearly with clients about diagnoses, treatment options, home care, and long-term preventive strategies
Maintain detailed and accurate medical records, prescriptions, and documentation in practice management systems
Collaborate closely with veterinary technicians and support staff, fostering a respectful, team-oriented environment
Contribute to a culture of safety, cleanliness, and biosecurity within the clinic and on farm calls
Participate in rotating on-call or extended hours for urgent and emergency cases, as needed by the clinic
Engage in continuing education and professional development to maintain and expand clinical skills in mixed animal medicine
Support clinic initiatives that promote animal welfare and strengthen relationships with the local community
Clinical examination of mixed animal species (small animal, equine, livestock)
Diagnosis and treatment planning
Surgical skills (soft tissue, basic orthopedic preferred)
Emergency and critical care for multiple species
Vaccination and preventive care protocols
Anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery oversight
Interpreting laboratory and diagnostic imaging results
Client communication and education
Medical recordkeeping and practice management software use
Herd health and flock health consultations
Pain management and pharmacology for mixed species
Field/ambulatory farm calls
Biosecurity and infection control
Patient triage and prioritization
Collaboration with veterinary technicians and support staff
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) from an accredited veterinary school
Active or eligible New Mexico veterinary license
Federal and state DEA registration eligibility
USDA APHIS Category II accreditation (or eligibility/interest in obtaining) for livestock and equine work
Professional liability insurance eligibility
Valid driver’s license for ambulatory/field calls
