Position Summary:
Senior Graphic Designers are key members of Arkansas State University's Publications and Creative Services team. This position serves as a steward of the university's visual brand, ensuring consistency, quality and excellence across print, digital, and editorial communications.
Senior Graphic Designers partner with campus clients to understand their goals, develop creative concepts, and transform strategic objectives into compelling visual solutions. The position plays an important role in shaping and executing the A-State brand while maintaining high standards of design, creativity and visual consistency.
The ideal candidate is a strategic designer who pairs strong technical skills with creative problem-solving. They proactively identify opportunities to strengthen communications, contribute fresh ideas, and collaborate effectively with their marketing and communications colleagues and campus partners to produce engaging, audience-focused work.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Director of Publications and Creative Services and campus clients to define project goals and translate strategic objectives into effective visual communications.
- Design and produce a wide range of print and digital marketing materials, including brochures, magazines, invitations, advertising, digital graphics, presentations, and other institutional publications.
- Lead the creative development of key institutional publications, such as A-State Alumni Association's Voices magazine, recruitment materials and donor proposals, ensuring exceptional design quality and brand consistency.
- Manage assigned design projects from concept through completion, balancing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and maintaining high creative standards.
- Champion the Arkansas State brand by consistently applying institutional identity standards across all visual communications.
- Present creative concepts to stakeholders, clearly communicating design rationale and providing guidance on brand standards and visual communication best practices.
- Manage print production by coordinating with vendors on estimates, specifications, timelines, quality control and delivery of finished materials.
- Collaborate effectively with writers, photographers, videographers, web developers, social media strategists, and other creative professionals to deliver integrated marketing campaigns.
- Serve as a creative resource for campus partners by identifying opportunities to strengthen visual communications and recommending effective design solutions.
- Mentor junior designers and student employees by providing design guidance, constructive feedback, and support for professional growth.
- Stay informed on emerging design trends, technologies, and production best practices to continually enhance the university's creative capabilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and other industry-standard design tools.
• Thorough knowledge of print production processes, including file preparation, color management, paper stocks, printing methods, finishing techniques and vendor specifications.
• Strong understanding of design principles, typography, layout and visual hierarchy across print and digital media.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize competing deadlines, and maintain exceptional attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to communicate visual concepts effectively, present creative work to stakeholders, explain design decisions, and incorporate constructive feedback into final solutions.
• Ability to interpret communication objectives and translate them into strategic, audience-focused visual designs.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships across diverse campus departments and creative teams.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative, creative team.
• Knowledge of current design trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in graphic design and marketing communications.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience developing, maintaining and following brand identity standards for a large or complex organization.
• Demonstrated familiarity with higher education.
• Skills in writing, video, photography or web are considered a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a closely related field.
• Five (5) years of professional graphic design experience, preferably in an agency, higher education, or other client-focused creative environment.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating excellence in branding, campaign development, publication design, visual storytelling and integrated marketing communications.
